A Deliciously Tasty Beef Fajita Soup Recipe

The fajita. A delightful Tex-Mex combo of grilled meat, peppers, and onions served with a tortilla and topped with cheese and sour cream. It’s become a delicious part of our culture over the past few decades.

From “Fajita Fridays” to National Fajita Day every August 18th. We love our fajitas. But how did this love affair with this crunchy creation begin?

The fajita was invented around 1940 by Mexican ranch workers in the Rio Grande area of Texas. The workers were often paid with meat. But it was often the worst parts, including what’s called skirt (the diaphragm muscle). Though flavorful, this cut was tough and chewy, so the workers had to use their cooking skills to turn it into a tasty meal.

They did just that by marinating, then grilling the meat with vegetables and serving it on a tortilla. While it became a popular campfire food, it wasn’t until 1969 when a Texas butcher named Sonny Falcon started selling them in food stands at festivals around the state. Fajita fans wanted more, so restaurants listened and began serving them.

Today, they are so popular, you can buy Fajita kits, frozen fajitas, and Fajita bowls. There are a million recipes for these tasty wraps, including soup variations. That’s right, if you want the spicy, vibrant taste of a fajita in hearty soup form, we’ve got the perfect recipe for you.
