The Process of Making Pizza Soup
In order to make this soup, you will be combining beef broth and tomato sauce. That’s what gives this soup its unique flavor profile. The canned diced tomatoes, black pepper, onion, green pepper and oregano that you know and love are all here. We also find that this is a great soup to serve alongside some bread. Toast your bread, add some mozzarella to it, and broil it until it has had the chance to melt. There is nothing quite like this flavor combination. It’s just like ordering a pizza from your favorite local shop.
Why Can This Soup Be Made So Quickly?
Some may hear that this soup can be made within 15 minutes and start to get skeptical. After all, how is that even possible? How could any quality soup be made within such a short period of time? The key here lies in the usage of meats that do not have to be cooked. Since pepperoni is a form of lunch meat that can be placed directly into the soup without a lengthy preparation process, this significantly cuts down on the amount of time that is spent in the kitchen. Flavor is added to the soup quickly and the meat does not have to be cooked.
Is Pepperoni Ideal?
Others may be wondering if pepperoni is the ideal meat to add to this soup. Of course, this is your pizza soup, so you can swap it out for any number of other options. Ham and chopped salami are great choices, especially chopped salami with black pepper. It will mix perfectly with the rest of the ingredients and give your soup the spice that it needs. Meanwhile, there are some who may decide that they wish to stick with the pepperoni. There is nothing wrong with this choice, as this recipe allows us to modify as we see fit.
Prep + Cook Time
This soup is often chosen by busier families because the prep and cook time are both essentially nonexistent. There is zero prep time when it comes to making this soup and the cook time will only take 15 minutes. This allows us to enjoy this deliciously tasty pizza soup recipe any time, anywhere.

- Small onion (1)
- Pre-cooked bacon (4 slices, buy it cooked)
- Sliced pepperoni (4 ounces)
- Italian bread (1/2 loaf)
- Grated mozzarella cheese (2 cups)
Cooking Instructions
Step 1:
Turn on your broiler. From there, take your rack and position it 6 to 8 inches away from the source of your heat.
Step 2:
Take your large pot or your Dutch oven and put it on high heat. At this time, broth, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, oregano, and black pepper are all added. Stir the mixture and take a moment to cover it up. Once the soup has had the chance to come to a simmer, reduce the level of heat to low.
Step 3:
While you are in the midst of handling the previous step, grab a large skillet and heat the olive oil. Be sure to set it on medium heat before proceeding. Now, it is time to add your mushrooms. Stir it all up. Chop up your green peppers as thoroughly as possible and add them to the mushrooms. You will need to stir it all up again before moving on to the next step.
Step 4:
Chop up the onion and add it to the soup now. After taking the time to stir again, this is when the strips are going to be making their first appearance. Chop it up, add it and stir the soup some more. Chop up your pepperoni and add that next. You will want to keep stirring for best results. Continue to stir until the peppers and onions have had the chance to soften a bit. Once they have, you will know that it is time to move forward.
Step 5:
This is when the bread is coming to come into the equation. Cut the bread into four thick slices. You will then want to place your bread on a broiler pan. Put the bread beneath the broiler, so that the bread is roasted evenly and slowly. Once it has been lightly toasted, be sure to remove it from the broiler and flip it over. Otherwise, it may have a chance to burn and it will not pair as nicely with this deliciously tasty pizza soup recipe.
Step 6:
This is when the mozzarella cheese is going to be added to your bread slices. Make sure that 1/4 of a cup is poured onto each of them. Return the bread to the underside of the broiler. This is why it was so important to lightly toast it before. Otherwise, it may not withstand a second stint under the broiler. You will want to leave it under the broiler until the cheese has had sufficient chance to melt. It should be browned in spots as well and the process will take roughly 1 to 3 minutes.
Step 7:
Take the mushroom mixture and stir it into your soup. Once this step is done, your soup should be ready to serve. Ladle it into each bowl and top each serving off with the mozzarella cheese that is still left over. Serve your deliciously tasty pizza soup recipe with cheese toast.
